What is the European Summer School?

The European Summer School is a brand-new initiative of the International Academy of Catholic Leaders in cooperation with the Isabel la Católica School of Government and Leadership, at Francisco de Vitoria University, and with the support of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union, and the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU).

It consists in a one-week, face-to-face highly intensive, highly interactive experience whereby a selective number of participants engaged with top leaders to reflect on the great challenges facing Europe, and to develop knowledge, skills and connections needed to address them successfully.

When and where does the European Summer School take place?

The European Summer School will take place between 7-13th July in the beautiful Monastery La Vid, in Aranda de Duero, Burgos, Spain.

More information and applications

There are two possible ways to apply depending on whether you are a university student or are near your graduation or already working.

  1. Are you a university student?
    If the answer is yes and you are in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of your undergraduate studies, you can choose to take the European Summer School independently or as part of the Global Leadership Programme (GLP). The GLP is three years long, hybrid program, directed to young leaders oriented to service who want to change the world. A challenged-based, hands-on degree in which some of the top leaders and academic share their knowledge and insights with a small group of young, high-potential, service-oriented individuals.     • If you want to apply just to the European Summer School, click here.The deadline for application in this case is June 30th.

    • If you want to apply to the GLP and attend the European Summer School, the deadline for application is also June 30th. More information on the GLP here.

    • If you want to apply to the GLP but cannot attend the European Summer School on July 24, you need to choose that option in the registration form. In this case the deadline for application is September 15th.

  2. Are you nearing your graduation, or have you already graduated from university?
    If the answer is yes and regardless of your years of professional experience, you can apply to the European Summer School but not to the GLP. For more information and applications click here.

PURPOSE AND GOALS

FOR WHOM?

The initiative primarily aims to identify and select a group of young people with a vocation for service and proven capabilities to contribute to the project of building a Europe based on the ideals of the Judeo-Christian tradition.

IMPACT

The Summer School also aims to collectively reflect on the current challenges and the responses that Catholics are called to articulate in theory and propose in practice in the field of European politics and society.

COMMUNITY

The School also aims to foster a community of individuals who, based on friendship and shared mission, can promote the exchange of information, knowledge, and action proposals among its members.

WHERE WILL THE SUMMER SCHOOL TAKE PLACE

STUDY PLAN

The method takes a gradualist approach, running for 28 weeks over the whole of the academic year.

  • 4 hour – Online learning per week
  • 4 hour – Teamwork per week
  • 1 hour – Per fortnight with the academic tutor
  • 1 hour – Per week with the team mentor
  • 12 weeks – Classes per semester
  • 2 weeks – Individual study and teamwork per semester

Weeks of class time over the academic year will be split between two overarching Modules:

Each Summer School will be organized at a different, representative European location and will address a core subject through round tables, workshops, debating spaces and group activities and leisure pursuits.

*Note: Approximately 40% of the course consists of class hours and 60% of team and individual work.

PRICE AND GRANTS

The price includes half–board accommodation at the Summer School. It does not include Summer School travel costs.

  • The full programme price is €23,250.
  • The price of each separate course is €7,840.

The programme is covered by an ambitious grants scheme:

  • 100% grants for 10% of matriculations
  • 80% grants for 80% of matriculations
  • 50% grants for 10% of matriculations
